Time flies when you’re busy working. It flies even faster when you’re going back in time — here are some pics and interviews from a week or so ago, when I did the red carpet premiere and party for the new comedy Hot Tub Time Machine. The movie is out today, and I’d meant to post this by now… better late than never!

Here’s the funny “all access” pass they gave out at the event. I hadn’t seen the movie, so I was asking everyone, “What’s up with the squirrel?” and the cast had some funny answers (see the video, after the photos, to find out exactly what they said about it… which isn’t much, but it’s still amusing!)

Remember these atrocious “fashions” from the 80s? I wouldn’t be caught dead in zebra leggings and a stonewashed denim mini, but pretty much everyone was decked out in the spirit of fun that night.

This reporter next to me on the press line was cute — she was wearing her mom’s old geometrical power suit from the 80s.

I thought about retro’ing it out myself, but as you can see, I didn’t bother. (Plus, I really hate 80s fashions… a lot)

But Wait… There’s More!

.
Here’s the star of the show, John Cusack! Anyone who’s been following me knows that I’ve had ups and downs interviewing Cusack over the years. But this time he not only recognized me (he likes the blue streak), but he was smiley and friendly. (And it’s not just me… other reporters noted his unusually jovial manner, and were like, “What’s up with Cusack?” ;))

Here’s Crispin Glover. Always fun to talk to, but his sense of humor is nil. Not that he isn’t pleasant and such, but for instance, he was talking about his character in Hot Tub Time Machine and telling me he only has one arm. So I made a crack about The Fugitive and Twin Peaks, and he just looked at me blankly. Absolutely did not get it.

Photobucket
.
.
This is Colette Wolfe, who said in the 80s she was “having milk and cookies”. Well… at least she was alive in the 80s! (Some of the actors in the flick were not… so weird to hear them talking about the OLD music, OLD styles, and OLD movies!)

Photobucket
.
.
Chevy Chase was, as usual, super-quick and not wanting to stop and chat (last time I talked to him was at the Starsky & Hutch remake), but he did give one very funny soundbite (watch the video for that, I’ll just ruin it if I type it out).

Photobucket
.
.
Sebastian Stan. I don’t know if he’s in the movie or not, but I just like to say his name: Sebastian Stan. Or Stan Sebastian — which sounds more like a character from a cheesy romance novel?

Here’s one of the entrances to the nightclub where the party was held. They had this very famous graphic style print from the 80s. I forget the artist’s name, but I believe he did a Duran Duran album cover, too.

Here are some spoof posters of the stars, John Cusack and Clark Duke.

This is an ice sculpture that was at the entrance to the party. I still have not seen the movie, but I’ve learned enough about it from the actors’ interviews and the clips I’ve seen that the time travel aspect is centered around Winterfest ’86. Inside, there was even snow — real manmade snow! Funny, but at one point I slipped in it in my slick high heels and went skiing right into some poor guy. I had to grab both of his lapels to keep from falling. So embarrassing.

Here’s Tommy Lee, whose music from Motley Crue is featured on the movie’s soundtrack. That reminds me, I still haven’t read THE DIRT. I have it sitting right here, I really should. (I did just finish SCAR TISSUE, Anthony Kiedis’ autobio, so I’m on a rockin’ roll.)

There were two actual hot tubs inside, with extras hired to be in character. One guy had a Ronald Reagan mask, and then two other guys had (I hope) penis-puppets over their actual privy places, and fake (again, I hope) chest hair wigs. It was pretty silly!

Check out how NON-80s and totally high-tech 00s we are! For this premiere, Enzo used a Flip and I was using an iPhone app that acts as a microphone.

Speaking of the iPhone (as I often do :)), somebody showed me a great app called “PhotoAvatar”. It’s just a toy, but it’s really fun. Here’s the info on how it works, and then 3 caps I did showing yours truly as an alien (I know some of you suspected… now suspicions are confirmed!). Anyway, it’s oodles of fun. If you have an iPhone I suggest you download it now, while it’s still on sale.

Footwear, Fashion, & Friends

Hm. Look at how I ordered that list. Says something about me, I guess. But, without further ado, here’s the shoes!

I took this pic the other day, wearing the very first “high heels” I ever bought (at the age of 14). They still fit! I wear them a few times a year, and have never had to have them repaired. Well-made. I think they are Candies, but the label has long since worn away.

Nowadays, these are more my speed. My latest acquisition! They’re a no-name brand (Qupid) and I bought them off of eBay. They’re so cute and comfy, I immediately went to order another pair put now they are out of my size (5.5). Oh, well…

I was at the mall last week, and I saw these cute shoes (didn’t buy, just looking — the first ones were at Forever 21 [I liked these, but they only had them in size of canoes] and the rest are from Guess [should be Gue$$]).

Amanda’s cute shoes! I love these.

She wore them at our farewell dinner (she and David are moving out of state. Sob!) at Vegan Glory. I’d never been there before. It was pretty good (Amanda’s been threatening to take me there for years, finally did it!).

Here’re the last L.A. Ladies photos of us! (As you can see, I was on my way to the Hot Tub Time Machine premiere that day)

You can’t see, so I took a close up later on — check out these neat fake nails I found. Revlon makes them. I still like acrylic nails, but not the severe damage they cause. It’s taken about 3 months to get my nails back to normal after having them removed.

Here is another eBay find — a black pencil skirt with white piping.

I’ve been into the black and white and also Pucci style prints for a long time, but haven’t added many new items into my closet lately. When I was watching Shear Genius a couple of weeks back, I saw this stunning halter top Brig was wearing.

Photobucket
.

I found something in the spirit of that on eBay (BCBG Max Azria), but I didn’t win it. The search continues!

I did get this cool Pucci inspired vintage halter top, though. I love it! This is Heather and me, on her birthday at Mirabelle last week.

She’s so cute, blowing out her cake candle! It’s funny, how she looks like she’s all alone and it’s kind of eerie (like a scene out of Happy Birthday To Me ;))

Here’s another neat Pucci style print, on a bathing suit. (Apropos of nothing, I just dig the photo)

    Loving the shoes!!!
I really think you could have rocked the 80’s style but glad you stuck to your principles and did not cave in. You are you and that is unique and wonderful. Excellent interviews as always.
Loved the iphone info. Way to go staying in the now.

GREAT extensive blog (or pictog) – like we both tend to do! ;-)

Silly as it looks, I kinda wanna see HOT TUB TIME MACHINE – maybe as a rental though. I noticed in your clip, the cast mentions past time travel movies – most or all I’ve seen. But I didn’t hear anyone mention TIME AFTER TIME (not even you, given your “boyfriend” was the main star)! ;p I wonder if it gets a nod in the flick too?

Wish I could’ve made it to Heather’s birthday party. Now I’m missing Paula’s tonight.

I’m still halfway into reading THE DIRT! So far, it’s entertaining (for me anyway). Yet, I’m also already burned out on Nikki Sixx’s drug use (he admits he was more into narcotics than sex – interesting given the band was mostly “known” for their off-stage debauchery).

Also, been reading this AC/DC bio – TWO SIDES TO EVERY GLORY by Paul Stenning – (don’t know how accurate the book is) – but the author definitely feels there was more to Bon Scott’s death than just him passing out and choking to death over a night of drinking. He alleges there may have been some heroin use as well, which I had never heard about before. Plus some MAJOR negligence on the part of Bon’s friend whom left him bundled up in the car overnight – (which apparently was extremely cold outside), and he didn’t check back on him until the next early evening (certainly not in the morning, since the friend was still passed out himself, up in his own apartment). Stenning also paints Bon as being very sad and burned out by the rock n roll lifestyle towards the end of the HIGHWAY TO HELL tour – not having a wife & family (at that time HTH was their most successful album), but he felt that the next album was really gonna be their big breakthrough (and it was in spades – Bon’s tribute album: BACK IN BLACK!!!!)

I still gotta finish STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (I’m towards the end somewhere), and your copy of SHUTTER ISLAND – focusing on that right now.

Thanks, T.! I still haven’t finshed your blog, but when I do I will comment. Yours is way more pic-toggy than mine! Yeah, I forgot all about TIME AFTER TIME. I guess I was just thinking of time-travel comedies or lighter fare. Sounds like your reading tastes are similar to mine these days. I want to read THE DIRT, and I did recently buy a paperback all about the Southern California rock scene in the early 70s (probably should have read that *before* writing my “Dark Lullaby” novel :)). I should read that AC/DC book… I don’t know much about them.

The AC/DC book is pretty good. Could be better. The first half is great , talking about the Young brothers & Bon Scott’s beginnings, when their families emigrated from Scotland to Australia to avoid poverty. And it’ a trip to read about the may incarnations Malcolm & Angus had in AC/DC before Bon joined (who initially began his career as a drummer in other bands).

After the “For Those About To Rock” period, the book kinda goes into typical “Behind The Music” mode.

Not too many salacious tales, like in the Zep book: STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN. But still interesting nevertheless. AC/DC originally started out as a pseudo-glitter rock band, if you can believe that (when their original singer Dave Evans was in the band – this is also a line-up before drummer Phil and bassist Mark Evans joined the band).

I’ll email you live clip of this era, circa 1974! It’s a trip!

You must read THE DIRT! It’s insanely addictive. Of course, being an 80s metalhead doesn’t hurt either.;)

Love the shoe porn as always! Thanks again for the Yoda pic!

  6. stacilaynewilson April 9, 2010 at 11:26 AM #

I am definitely going to read THE DIRT. It’s around here, somewhere. Glad you liked YODA. I’ll have to send you my picture with Darth Vader – it’s on Facebook.
