Back Issue Blog: Dragon Scales, Leopard Spots, and A Sex-Kitten’s Tales

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I did the TV junket for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo earlier this morning — it was a quick ‘n dirty one: just seven minutes to talk to two people about the most complex of thrillers, and BYOC (bring your own camera) to boot. The FLIP is super-easy to use, but I couldn’t find a suitable surface to set it on for tripod-perching, so I had to go handheld. It looked OK through the viewfinder, but knowing my tremulous caffeine-fueled fingers, the video will probably come out looking like I’m a top graduate of the John Cassavettes School of Cinematography. We’ll see (and so will you, before weeks’ end at Horror.com).

The director of the film (Niels Arden Oplev) and the female lead (Noomi Rapace) were on hand for the interviews and they were both really nice. They both had interesting insightful things to say about the characters and story (as well they should, having been talking about this movie for a couple of years now… it’s taken awhile to come Stateside).

A Touch of the Feline

I’ve been slowly but surely adding to my leopard-print couture and accoutrement — the year before last, I invested in a very smart pair of Steve Madden Lavedas. Last year, I got a pretty ring and a cool tote bag. This year, I got a vintage-inspired jacket and a pair of leopard tights.

Here’s a few shots of my own leopard-love, followed by leopard I like.

But Wait… There’s More!

One Sexy Kitten

I just got this book in the mail yesterday… haven’t started reading it yet, but I’m eager to open it up. I can’t wait to see what the lovely and mysterious Ms. Deneuve has to say about working with Roman Polanski, and also her thoughts on The Hunger.

Tomorrow, hopefully, I will be posting flash reviews of the following films:

Roman Polanski’s Ghost Writer (now in cinemas)

Pedro Almodovar’s Broken Embraces (now on DVD)

As well as…

The Eclipse

Precious

The Baader-Meinhof Complex

& a rundown of many more movies I’ve seen recently.

Now posted at horror.com —

My in-depth set visit report on what I saw being filmed on the new A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2010 remake.

Follow up: That Catherine Deneuve book isn’t very good. It only covers some of her films; the only one I was interested in was Luis Buneul’s TRISTANA. She also did Belle du Jour with Bunuel, but that movie’s not covered. On top of that, it’s pretty much all business and nothing “personal” (though she does talk about what a diva Bjork was on Dancer in the Dark). Oh, well… $3 on the bargain bin. Can’t complain. (Much.) I have a few more pages to go.
