Model Falls on the Runway & Semi Precious Weapons Fully Cocked

11 Aug

What are the odds? I’d post a blog about spectacular catwalk calamities, and then crash! bam! boom! a model falls on the runway right in front of me. It happened last night at a fashion show for Lyric Culture’s Nude collection in Santa Monica at the Fred Segal on 5th. The photos (by Enzo Giobbe) illustrate the diva’s dive and recovery, then a few follow-up images (by me) show how rock’n roll glam saved the day.

Newsflash: Fresh paint and high heels don’t mix.

I swear I had his blog planned out *before* the video from Paris Fashion Week broke (fortunately this leggy lady didn’t break her ankle) but I will admit I was dragging my feet. Now that it’s timely here I am, jumping in.

Staci Layne’s 10 Tips for Walking in High Heels

I’ve been known to take a shaky step (and someone is ALWAYS there to notice, and comment), but the only times I’ve really slipped are in shoes that are relatively low… I think it has more to do with the surface that’s being walked upon (I firmly believe all slick super-market flooring, cobbled alleys, and walkways with numerous grates are designed by men). I had this one pair of cowboy boots years ago that I finally had to retire, because every single time I walked in them it was like putting on Cinderella’s glass SLIPper. Plus, I always seem to be wearing my highest, narrowest shoes when unexpected walking happens (can’t find car in lot, parked too far away, somebody else’s idea to walk to the restaurant instead of drive…).

I’ve been busy working, writing, traveling for work, etc., etc. Reports on that stuff all in good time. For now, my mind is all a’shutter with pictures on the brain.

Then again, I’ve always had pictures on the brain. I don’t know where I get it from, since even though both my mom and my dad were always good about recording family moments on film, neither one of them will take pictures “just because”. But being a model back in the day, my mom did know a lot of photographers and I always enjoyed looking at their work. I remember getting my first dinky-cheapie camera when I was about six years old (probably to coincide with getting my first pony… and boy, did I take a lot of pictures of Cinnamon Cinder!) and I’ve had one or ten ever since.

But Wait! There’s More…
